Artist Spencer Tunick has thanked the thousands of people who stripped off their clothes to pose for a photo outside the Sydney Opera House this morning.

Five-thousand-two-hundred people took part in the shoot for the photo "Mardi Gras: The Base" - which will add to Tunick's collection of similar photos taken at landmarks around the world.

Tunick says the shoot has been a great success.
