We were warned our water bills would go up next year to pay for the desal plant and other water infrastructure ..and now the bad news has been confirmed.
Water bills will soar by 21.7 per cent from the 1st of July
For most households that's a bill increase of about $84 a year.

What are your thoughts on this significant increase?

Here we go again.Companies making profits, this is what happens when you privatise everything. There is no incentive to save water,in our household we used 17dollars of water and the bill came out at 60 dollars.

Same as everything else that is going up. It is getting harder and harder and harder to find the extra cash. I don't smoke, rarely drink, don't go out to movies or dinner etc. My only luxury is my computer and that is going have to be cut back soon if everything keeps going up,
Seriously, did anyone actually believe that water costs were going to go down.

Why don't they use the money for the stadium update to pay for the desal plant. that is more important than sport.

How many of those whinging about the proposed increased SAWATER pricing are happy to pay over $3 for 750 mils of fancy bottled water ?

That said Government must put a fair $ rate on water based upon consumption not suburb

After Mike Rann's workcover changes the fact that I have to pay more for water is ridiculous and seals a my vote next election. .Considering if the money could have been used to solve a problem by retaining water that falls from the sky for free rather than covering a budget shortfall out of our pockets. And if its not a shortfall then they knew they'd be slugging us with this crap.
Federally and domestically we have governments that are adding to our cost of living more and more every few months with stupid ideas they implement without consulting the public opinion.
A desal plant is the stupidest thing we've ever done esp in light of how much rain water let storm out into the gulf.
Thank god the ets didn't get through.
Nuclear power plant is the next thing they should do but they got p*** weak excuses for that too.
I find the ad absurd asserting how we'll have to pay more.

Its fine to implement bad policy and its fine to charge us more for it.
Lets vote Mike Rann and co back in again for another round of sell offs price hikes and affairs and contracts and policies that are all "you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours" with big business...

We are clueless...

We WERE warned. I'm not surprised, in fact I thought it might have been more...

The biggest problem is not the published price increase but the unpublished one. The old yearly allowance divided into quarters means that we will be paying significantly more for water than a rise of 21.7%. We will go over our quarterly minimum allowance during summer thereby incur greater cost.

Yes true but I will say so are the majority of voters are too, thats why they support these ridiculous parties. The voters are played like fools.
Like you rightly said we get rain from the sky let it flow into the gulf through stormwater. Its the yr nearly 2010 and we have just wasted yrs on end of securing our most important resource Water. All the while our governments have been hell bent on increasing our population and planning the tenticles of Urban sprawl.
Just aswell the bright sparks of ranns scam have chosen for US a mega expensive desal disaster. Its ok we will pay for it and let our river die, let stormwater go into sea Honestly what a pathetic backwards State and nation we have become. River Murray must be under Federal control and Its totally treason for the govs to sell our Water Infrustructure oust to overseas investers.

I don't buy bottled water.

I agree on pay by water use, however that can't be achieved here where I am . Strata Titled properties with each of us ( unit owners) having to share one common meter ( usage reading )
We all get our own individual Water Rates Bill but no way of knowing how much each unit owner actually uses.

I agree totally patriotact, but there is one point to this you may have missed, which is the fact that us voters have very little choice on who is elected, we only have a choice of 2 parties, what can we do if neither are suitable? a protest vote is a vote for the party in power... Our democratic system is no longer really democratic, the proof of this was when talking to Leon this morning Simon Crean (Ihope thats the right spelling) said that he took into consideration the wants of the beef industry and the supermarket industry, but he does not take into consideration the wants of consumers/voters.... Shouldn't elected politicians take voters needs as the main consideration as that is who he represents?

Hooray! I hate paying bills as much as the next person, but we will never appreciate water until we pay the amount it is truly worth. I am happy to pay for watering my garden (which is environmentally friendly), but not to take long showers (how long do you need to wash the dirt and sweat off your body?), and am redirecting all my downpipes from stormwater to the yard or tanks (will I get a rebate on my rates for not using the stormwater system?).

water policy in sa has been badly handled. lots of words but little in the way of outcomes.

too much goes towards admin.
maywald has a lot to answer for.
hope she is replaced.

save the murray levy... why are we the only state to pay it?

this is like third world living for us we live below the poverty line, this will be a vicious cycle for low income earners especially the housing trust tenants the more they put things up more issues there will be with health problems and other probelms that means food goes up to ,so does every thing else i say challenge hon mike rann make them live on a low income for a month, see if he has a three minute shower

so more dry gardens ,does the government members take a three minute shower or do they use boil water,so haircuts go up so will all the living again ,more finicial stress on families

for the elderly and the frail whom already have to chose between eating paying water bills and people with disabilities this could cause a great depression so whom gets rich the doctors at the governments bad enviroment management plans and not using the right properties with our taxpayers money the key to living is water so use the money wisely not putting it into a sporting stadium, just remember this that go up to as the councils have to water the football ovals, next we all be skinny dipping in the sea,at least thats free, then we get charged for indicent exposure or bad behaviour,or we get charged for offensive smells, and the police get richer

'FIVEaa said: We were warned our water bills would go up next year to pay for the desal plant and other water infrastructure' ...

And that makes it all ok doesn't it?

Is it time to question the relationship between government and business?

Especially those in charge of our infrastructure?
