I missed the discussion with Micheal Atkinsion on 5aa but from what I can gather, Micheal has rejected the proposal on the assumption that it will incourage hoon driving and it will cost the government money in developing it.

From what I am hearing the government doesn't have to fund any of it other than releasing land either for sale or lease.

As far as hoon driving on public roads is concerned, you are always going to get no matter what you do and in fact the more you try to stop it by over policing the worse it will get as most young people will rebel against it.

However if there is release for young people to drive their cars on a closed race track where safety factors are in place. It is a far better idea than people driving like idiots on the streets or on country roads to get their fix.

I think Micheal tends to think he is more of a mother to the people rather than an politician. His stance on certain things such as video gaming classifications just indicates that he is out of date with the times.

I didn't miss it, but listening to Michael Atkinson it is clear that if he has some type of personal axe to grind on this issue, His responses were emotional responses and therefore should stand down or refuse comment if asked about this issue.
It would be imposible for him to make any type of impartial judgement on this issue as it appears that he has already made up his mind before the debate is realy even started.
It's a bit like him being in a jury and already being convinced that the accussed is guilty before the case starts.

That "Are you creeping?" add on telly is a waste of money. It should be, "Are you looking?"

As a regular commuter up and down the southern experssway 6 days a week it amazes me to see the amount of rear end collisions that occur, soley because theyre not looking! Too busy doing something else!! IE: on the phone...women making themselves "pretty" instead of surveying the traffic and pretty boys constantly in the mirror not wanting to mess up their hair.

As far as hoon driving goes it makes total sense to me to get them off the streets to vent whatever frustration they posess on a safe and controlled venue.
But of course, i expect the gov will see a decline in revenue if that were the case.

Michael Atkinson - as with many callers on this issue - has done little more than make uninformed comments and thereby make a fool of himself.
The proposal is NOT to build a drag strip for use by hoon drivers, it is to build a motorsport complex with a circuit, drag strip and associated training facilities. It will be professionally run, with all necessary safety and insurance requirements.
The notion that some 16 year old hoon could just walk up and run his car is ridiculous. His car would have tp pass scrutineering and if in the 'street' category would have to be street legal in all respects. This alone would stop many of the hoons as a large number of their vehicles have been illegally modified.
Mr Atkinson should check his facts before opening his mouth and stuffing his foot in it!

i love motor sport and fast cars thats on the race track but hate hoon drivers they just dont think about the impact it could cause if they have a accident or endanger there lives there friends,or innocent people lives, how many lives do we have to lose to they wake up,i say i know this is tough but take them to a funeral parlour before they prepare the body for the families.whom are greiving hurting because some hoon driver has killed someone get them charged or make the legal age of driving 21,we want you to live and enjoy life wake up hoon drivers before put foot to the petal your families want you alive

Nappies and politicians have one thing in common. Eventually they will start to stink and need to be change. I think the voters in the seat of Croydon need to remember that.

Speedway Park should be bought out but Bob wants top $.

LMC is hardly going to part with prime land considering they're carving up and fencing off pelican point and north arm and some.

Lets not forget your trying to cut delfins lunch
yes the very people who brought you West Lakes and Golden Grove and the list goes on.

I don't like your chances of snagging what is basicly a flood plain in any case.

You watch where the sea heads when theres king tides.

Not real ideal for a race track but there is/was? already the motorbike track there hence i can see how that nullifies my thoughts not forgetting the garden island boat racing.

So as far as noise is concerned thats a non issue as currently theres plenty of noisey stuff out that way including the expressway and industry.

Personally i think we should smash down AAMI stadium as it's a renovated carbon clone of wembly which really is pathetic.

The fact the crows spent 1mil adding to the eyesore just confirms they have more money than sense.

Put some sort of track there even if they have to elongate things by taking up the reserve and "the hanger".

Maybe even piss brebner drive of seeing as they're going to put lights in because utter retards can't obey no right turn from Frederick rd no matter what signs get put there extra lighting you name it the dropkicks still have to tempt fate.

Oops yard limit bye

If I had the opportinity to go somewhere and legally do some circle work, lay some rubber and take my car for a couple of sprints I'd do it without hesitation.

I'm sure a location could be found, if Mike Atkinson can be convinced it would save lives. And somehow I think it would but somehow I think Mike Atkinson is a very difficult person to negotiate with, let alone trying to convince him he was wrong. He really doesn't seem to be living in 2010.

I have heared from a person close to the action with this topic, that it will not be going ahead. So you might be better off shifting the momentum whilst it is there to another site. Try the existing one at Virginia. Its a wasteland, but with the base already there to build it into something of a quality raceway.

@ Winestar
I believe the reason Bob Jane hasn't updated the track at Speedway Park Virginia to bring it up to the necessary standard is because there are too many residents now living in the area with many more planned. Todays dragsters etc require a much longer straight than currently exists, and permission to extend has been denied because of the probable problem of noise pollution. Virginia will very soon be another extension of Adelaide - the amount of development in the area is huge.

Spoton you probably heard that LMC are in discussions with Penrice atm for the salt pans.

They have to make it worth they're while to "relocate to another location".

Yesss or perhaps click they're heels whilst jumping skyhigh yelling a very famous corporate trademark of into the sunset and say pfffft to salt all together?

But seriously it's interesting because i wonder if LMC have factored the brine line in they're equations.

Oh dear i know penrice will be as that supplies Osborne if memory serves.

Also you have a rather important high pressure line going near there hence they gotta watch it around north arm vibration regs.

They say theres native species concerns also no doubt but dumping in that region not that long ago wasn't an issue let history note.

Thats why LMC won't have any sagas.

What the NVC or NRM will tell of another govt dept? muhahahahaaaaa

Hence Dry Creek salt pans are open season.

Save the brown snakes rabbits marsh dwellers who will all perish come king tide !

OOps did i say that aloud?

All hail LMC!
For they will make Rome look like a subdivision !

Contracters your not going to be out of work for a while rest assured remediating a former saltpan hmmmmm interesting challenge but seeing as modern homes nolonger require stupid things like yards or soil it should be fine.

45 minutes???? - from where - the toll gate??
Depending on the time of day it can take me 30 - 45 minutes to get to the toll gate from the Salisbury area.

PS - Why do you have to be so vitriolic in your statements? (whine, clapped out, town car????). Got an inferiority complex and have to have 'a go' at 'Townies'?

Maybe you should check your facts. The main reason the government gives for it's refusal to sell the land requested is that a major housing development is planned for the area, subject to a re-zoning of the land.

Jaydee, Mate, if you live at Salisbury, why on earth would you go to god's own country (the Murraylands) via the toll gate. I don't think I was that vitriolic, going on past experience at trade school if you compared country apprentices cars with city apprentices, you'd find the city boys cars had tart up stuff on them but the country boys cars went faster stopped better & handled better. When I was involved in motor racing at Virginia raceway we traveled there via Chain of Ponds towing our race cars, it was certainly a lot quicker. So in answer to your question, NO I don't have an inferiority complex at all, I just know us bushies can usually do things quicker, better & with a lot less fuss than the townies do, we see something that needs to happen & just DO IT! !

Sorry Rob52 I had read the post wrong and had the wrong area in my mind.. so my reply was all up a wattle,,,,lol,,,

Noise and people having fun at their parties etc never bother me in my world.

Did you go to The Murray Bridge Speedway last night? I assume you would enjoy the Speedway there . A friend from White Hill is a fan so I hear all about the Sprint Cars etc... and I've watched a few vids on You Tube too...
