Thanks to Greens candidate for Cheltenham, Dr Paul Downton, who unearthed this article from his archives. I passed it on to Leon last night. Cheltenham racecourse is a perfect location for more stormwater harvesting and the Government has missed a great opportunity in its haste to develop this site for housing.
just herd Jay Weatherall on binky binners show ,jesus christ labor are never ever wrong on any thing
Good story Leon! But give a guernsey to the guy who found the article – in his shed! That was me, Paul Downton, Greens SA candidate for Cheltenham. Cheltenham wasn't in Lenehan's list because it was a racecourse back then – now it's part of murky land dealing whilst the community is demanding wetlands and open space. The stormwater story shows what's possible – and reminds us that mainstream politics is not, perhaps, 100% honest...
Well done Leon, you have been relentless during this election campaign to flush out the real details of both major parties and to try to see through the spin machines especially Labor's well oiled machine which is now being seen for what it is. Recycling stormwater is by far the most sensible and environmentally responsible option to take. With recycled stormwater the parklands can become a true green belt around our beautiful city again and be used by everyone on a regular basis for community events and sensible commercial events that place Adelaide on the international map. This will also extend to the suburbs where the community will surely benefit. Remember when we were growing up everyone drank out of the garden hose...and we're all still around! Please keep on ensuring you don't let the pollies continuously dodge the real questions and issues with fluff and motherhood statements. With your help the citizens of Adelaide will wake up to the B.S that has been spun for so many years. I think evryone can see through it time they stop treating us like fools and start to listen to what the people want rather than telling us what we need!
Recycling storm water is great but what are we going to do if it doesn't rain for months at a time?.It's quite possible that given climate change etc etc that months without rain is a given so what are we going to water with and drink if a desalination plant is not in opperation to top up our reservoirs.I agree that wetlands are important but so is shoreing up our long term water supply.
Current news from Globe Derby is that huge mosquitoes are causing massive health problems for horses & humans. People are moving animals away from suburbs close to the wetlands.
